She sees herself as fat, stupid, and unattractive; a loser with no luck, nothing to offer anyone, and is constantly questioning her actions. None of these things are true, but the damage done to her is so great that she hides behind a hostile facade and a veritable curtain of obscenities to protect herself. A substance abuser, Jessica is almost never without a cigarette, as if she needs something to keep her hand busy. Her drinking and sex life follow similar patterns of casual habit, to binge devotion, needing and wanting the relief the indulgence brings, but feeling guilty or unworthy after. Her pessimism cuts her off from other people. Similarly, Jessica's detective skills don't follow the same patterns as those of other P.I.'s. She follows leads as best she can, but lacks the competency of professional detectives, often using specialty databases via the computer rather than face to face interviews, again foregoing human interaction, this time in favor of technology, at which she is hardly an expert. Even in spite of her pessimism, Jessica will usually do the right thing in a given situation, even if it means she has to do something she doesn't like, or doesn't want to. This can often backfire on her, given her tendency to attract bad luck, and more than occasionally this comes in the form of unwanted attention from the police, etc., who distrust a situation involving someone super-powered (possibly mutant) versus someone who isn't.
